Divorce & separation

divorce solicitor

The legal implications of relationship breakdown can be complex, whilst at the same time emotional. Here at Mander Cruickshank Solicitors LLP we have an experienced team who specialise in advising you on a range of family law matters. Our approach is to guide you through the complexities of family law in a constructive, understanding manner, firmly representing your interests but with a cost-effective approach.

We offer clear, confident and honest advice on all issues that arise from the breakdown of a relationship including divorce, separation, cohabitation disputes, finances and property (ancillary relief), domestic abuse and harassment (injunctions).

When a relationship ends, we understand that children are a first priority and we will work with you to resolve any difficulties that may arise such as contact with the children (formerly called access), who the child resides with formerly called child custody) and any other specific issues regarding the children.

Unfortunately, it is inevitable that some disputes will entail court proceedings. If this is the case then our dedicated team will be there to advise you prior to going to Court and represent and support you throughout the Court proceedings. Whenever appropriate, we will work with you to resolve disputes without the need to go to Court:

Mediation - Mediation is a realistic alternative to a potential conflict situation and allows couples to find their own solutions to outstanding issues. We can make referrals to mediation services.

Collaborative Law - This is a new way of dealing with family disputes and the aim is to resolve the dispute without the need for Court intervention. Each person appoints their own solicitor trained in Collaborative Law and settlement is addressed by round the table meetings at which both solicitors are present and you will therefore benefit from legal advice as you go. Our Kathryn Hicklin is a Collaborative Solicitor.

Both Kathryn Hicklin, Sharon Vallis and Erica Brownen are members of Resolution which is an organisation of lawyers who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters - http://www.resolution.org.uk.

Public Funding ("LEGAL AID")

Mander Cruickshank Solicitors LLP holds a contract with the Legal Services Commission to undertake publicly funded work in family cases (also known as Legal Aid). This brings with it a requirement that the firm meets high quality standards which are regularly audited. If you are not eligible for public funding we offer competitive private paying rates and will give a clear indication of costs at the outset.
